Welcome to Just Ask Matt! - The IT industry’s answer to the help column, only slightly more medicated. Today, Tom writes:
Matt, I have looked everywhere but am unable to figure out how to get my programs to minimize to the system tray. Can you help me out here?
Well Tom, there are a a variety of options that you can consider. My personal favorite is awesome because it works with just about any Windows-based program. It’s called TrayIT! and it definitely takes care of you. Just download it and follow the instructions. This handy little application will enable you to place everything from your e-mail application to your preferred PIM (Outlook/Pam Desktop) into your system tray. I also use it for when I am running my NT backup application. Thanks to Shadow Copy, I can keep working while the backup is taking place.
Now Tom, if you have issues getting it to start up during Windows boot, just double check the settings that come with it and you will likely find that it is just not set to start up with Windows like you thought it was. Good luck, buddy!
Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the
comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”
