One nutzo kind of holiday

Man, what a crazy holiday. With Christmas unloading a bundle of people needing help with their new devices that Santa so thoughtfully brought them for the holiday, it turned into a real three-ring circus for me.

Still, I have a lot to ponder about from this past year. I have been one of the fortunate ones although I have finally begun to come to an important decision. As much as PC repair has given to me, I feel that it is just about time to hang up my multimeter. It’s simply time for me to spend a little more time pursuing other endeavors like my work here at the ‘gnome, my Web comic and other projects still to come.

Looking back, I have had a lot of laughs and felt a lot of frustration. Over the years, I have seen some wild stuff, too. One of the most memorable was definitely the Blaster worm. Much like the rest of the world, it hit my town with the force of a freight train. Blaster affected the DMV, our local hospital, plus other government agencies with lighting speed.

Back on the home front, home users were also feeling the burn of this horrible virus from the depths of all that is evil. I finally had to start making outbound calls from my cell since it was getting tougher and tougher to get an outside line. Man, at the time it was feeling like the end of the cyber-world as we knew. Much like any other disaster, we all got through it OK. It just took time and most certainly presented a nice piece of media coverage in the mainstream press.

Moving on to my future, I would like to announce that I am very much open and interested in article writing within the IT field and I’m especially interested in working with a radio station or professional Podcast. While I do not feel that I am quite ready for a lead role of any sorts, I am certainly open to a ’side-show Bob’ role for an existing host. My experience in the radio field has been less than extensive, however I’ve made a number of appearances on both Tech Watch Radio and two separate Sunday morning Q&A appearances on KGMI here in Bellingham.

As for my writing, the bulk of it has been here at Lockergnome with various appearances elsewhere from time to time. Most notable of my other contributions would have to be a recent piece that I helped to contribute to in a small way for a freelancer with Smart Computing Magazine, besides that I have my Weblog where I bounce from in depth articles about important ‘happenings’ in the tech world to whatever crazy idea I have streaming through my mind at that time.

Now as some of you might remember, I mentioned something about a new project coming out here very soon. Well it is and will be. (That was vague, huh?) I am hoping to bring on a specific partner first before I make the official announcement, in addition to the million other odds and ends that need to be addressed first as well.

If any of my existing repair clients are reading this, don’t worry. As a number of you have already been told, I will still be here to work on your machines. Just keep it a little secret between us though, OK? Shhh. ;o)
