Wacky, Wacky Wireless!

Welcome to Just Ask Matt! Today, Gerald writes:

Is Belkin’s wireless USB adapter compatible with XP?
I get the warning message from Windows when I’m running the installation CD, and after an attempt to reinstall the adapter, Windows says the name is currently in use - as if there is something in the registry preventing the installation.

Have you heard anything about this?

Hmm, while I have not heard of this problem specifically with this device, here is what I would do in that situation. First, go into your device manager and uninstall the device if it is, in fact, still showing up. Turn on the PC and remove the device. At this point, I would boot the computer to look and see if there was a restore point created before the initial install of the device.

If there was, restore back to that point and then try running the CD before plugging in the USB device. I have to wonder if this is where the problem could have come from. I have not had any experience with or use for these types of adapters, but hopefully this will be of some help. Good luck!

Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the
comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”
