The Technology Vice Is Clamping Down!

Ever watch that show, 24 on Fox? I had never really sat down to give it a chance until recently. I must say that while it maintains a certain level of hype, it is definitely addictive. After catching the two most recent episodes, I was totally hooked and it would seem that there is no going back for me at all.

You know, I sometimes wonder if certain technologies are like that, as well. Take entertainment technologies such as gaming or perhaps even something like the mobile movement. Both of these can, in some way, change the way we lead our lives. In many cases, these devices have the ability to reshape things for the better. But in other situations, these manmade contraptions can, in fact, be more a burden than a blessing.

With video games becoming more and more realistic, it is of little surprise that this seemingly harmless pastime has claimed its fair share of addiction victims with each passing day. Internet use and having that need to ‘always be connected’ can oftentimes be something that could be a cause for concern if it conflicts with your normal activities, as well.

Speaking for myself now, I would have to say that my big ‘addiction’ would likely be watching too much TV. When I am enjoying my downtime, my TV remote is generally the first thing that I like to reach for. Whether it is just for background noise as I take a nap or I am catching up on one of my favorite programs, the TV is probably a bigger part of my life than it ought to be. Having said that, I don’t see it as a really huge concern since it has never been something that I have found a real problem in my work life.

I think life’s little technology vices are OK just as long as we can balance them out with our family lives and/or work-related responsibilities. If we can keep the balance, then I think that we can safely retain our little technology vices. ;o)
