The FAQ Of All FAQs
I was scouring the Web the other day, looking for a tool to help find out why my machine was running so slowly, when I stumbled across a Web site of FAQs. At first, I didn’t think anything of it. Most sites that are devoted to FAQs are relatively small and unhelpful. But this one was different, and I could see this immediately. First, it is part of the Windows IT Pro Web site, which is a series of very good magazines. What caught my eye, though, was how many FAQs there were. Topics included Windows, Active Directory, Internet Explorer, hardware, and various others. The only topic that I really found to be lacking was Microsoft Office. Apparently no one ever asks questions about Office!
Now, I know what you are thinking. There is a large number of topics, but so what if there are only a couple of questions in each category? Well, that could not be further from the truth. Not only are there a lot of topics listed, but there are a lot of different questions inside each category. The questions vary greatly in skill level. Some questions are as basic as the differences between XP Home and Professional editions while others are as complex as creating batch files to performing tasks.
Now, if you are as critical as I am, then you are saying to yourself there are a lot of categories that have a lot of info in them, but that doesn’t mean the information is correct. Well, you are such a pessimist! The information is current as well as accurate. Additionally, there is a section at the bottom to comment on the FAQ. On the rare occasion that information is wrong, there are plenty of posts correcting the information.
It is nice to see an FAQ that is really done well. I found the information that I was looking for, as well as some useful information that I may need in the future. I bookmarked the site for future reference, and would recommend that you do the same. If you know of any good links or utilities that I should discuss in the future, send them to me and I’ll review them.
