Boy, Some Helper Component!

Welcome to Just Ask Matt! Today, Antoine writes:

I can’t go into the control panel and get the Internet connection wizard to work. It says it’s failing to load the Internet connection wizard helper component. Help, please! I can’t get Win 98 to connect to my wireless router or DSL modem.

Based on the information you provided, it sounds like your Tapi32.dll or the Icwhelp.dll file is corrupted/missing. What you may need to do is extract the original file(s) from your Windows CD. First you need to get to the System File Checker. Just go to Run and type SFC. Now you can likely get the file from your CABs, as they are basically the same as you would be getting from your CD. Still, you might as well get it directly from the CD. Run the SFC tool and then follow these instructions to extract the files mentioned above. This should clear things up for you.

Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”
