HP has a kool little utility to make your thumb drive into a bootable device. Download it here.
The utililty is designed to work with an HP product, but it works with others. I tested it on my older PNY 64Mb USB 1.1 Attache and also on a 512MB Kingston Data Traveler II+. Both worked fine.
You will need an MSDOS boot disk - Win98 is what I used - to provide the files for copying. Or you can make an MSDOS boot disk by formatting a floppy in WinXP. When you run the utility, it will ask you to tell it where to find the boot files.
Put all of your DOS-based command line utilities on there and you’re ready to go.

When you say “Put all of your DOS-based command line utilities on there and you’re ready to go ” , do you mean everything? Such as AutoExec etc: as well?
