New Portable Gaming Devices to Tout VoIP

According to a report from TNI Securities, Nintendo’s new multimedia gaming handheld, the Dual Screen (DS), will support wireless VoIP. The Nintendo DS includes a built-in 802.11b WiFi radio when combined with the device’s headset jack, will allow users to place VoIP phone calls at home, office, and at WiFi hotspots. Talk about about being ubiquitiously connected… Many insiders and analysts speculate that a wireless VoIP-enabled Nintendo handheld could help spur the growth of Voice-over-WLAN (VoWLAN) use in the consumer market. The Nintendo DS is scheduled to ship later this year in the US and Japan.

Not to be left out of the portable gaming foray Sony’s upcoming PSP also comes with integrated Wi-Fi, it goes one step further. The portable gaming unit will not only integrate VoIP, it will include a VoIP translator called “Talkman” software allowing for vocal translation of up to nine languages….
