Hardware Hacker Does Hard Time

Some of you may remember when infamous hacker Kevin Mitnick was all over the news. Mitnick spend a bit over 5 1/2 years in prison for his hacking exploits.
Well, a Michigan man has just received the longest prison sentence ever handed down in a hacking case, nearly twice that of Mitnick’s, for his role in the hacking of hardware giant Lowe’s Hardware Store’s national computer system. Brian Salcedo, of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, received a 9-year sentence (hey, it’s the new math, ok?) for hacking into the wireless connection at a local Lowe’s, and using that to access the chain’s central computers, where he installed a program to sniff the credit card numbers of Lowes’ customers (the effort was unsuccessful, say Lowe’s officials).
