First of all, the fact that the Bush campaign has decided to block Web site access outside of US makes sense for a number of reasons. With the current state of the hacking world today, it would just be too tasty of a target for a potential attack from a foreign attacker.
Wait, why would anyone care? Simple, because he is a political figure. It has nothing to do with party affiliation, just the fact that he is a very public target. The article at Ars Technica states that there is some speculation that it was designed to save the campaign money. I have to disagree. I think it has a lot to do with Bush’s appearance to the specific parts of the world right now.
In a curious move by the Bush-Cheney campaign, administrators for the campaign have apparently blocked access to the Bush/Cheney site for people outside of the United States, with the exception of Canada. The Internet has been such a powerhouse in US politics lately that the move has come as quite a surprise. Netcraft spotted the change yesterday, and since then many have puzzled over the reason for the blockage. One might think that this move is a rational one since people outside of the US cannot vote in the election, but with so many Americans living abroad (almost 4 million), the move would also block them out as well. BoingBoing notes (quasi-work safe link) that the move has also denied access to the site to some (not all) American military personnel stationed overseas.
