Podcast Microphone Suggestion

Q: I’m about to break into the world of podcasting with my very own show, but the only question that I really have is about the type of microphone that I should use. I definitely don’t have a bunch of money to blow on this, so the cheaper the better. In your experience, what affordable mic has good quality?
A: First things first - I’m glad to hear that the podcasting bug has bit you. Once you get over the awkwardness of carrying on a conversation with yourself, you’ll be set. If you mess up, don’t worry about it. That’s natural, and people are drawn to naturalness.
Many of the elite podcasters may try to convince you that you need to setup a home studio to really make podcasting work for you. They’ll suggest condenser mic’s, mixers, and other tools that will cost more than you bargained for. I’m here to tell you that you don’t need a supreme studio to take part in the podcasting festivities. Personally, I use a cheap Logitech USB Desktop Microphone, and it works just fine. The quality is good, and you can’t really beat the price. Some people will prefer a headset, and if that’s the case with you, there are plenty of options to look into. In my case, I have experience with this mic, and I would recommend it to any podcasting newbie who wants to get up and running without spending a lot of cash.
Have a question or subject that you would like to see covered? Drop Brandon a line and maybe he can include it in a future edition of the Gnewbie Gnook! Also, don’t forget our forums (or, if you’re a Latin freak, fora) where Gnomies from all around the world congregate to help, be helped, and discuss issues that may or may not have anything to do with technology!

I am trying to break in to podcasting. I can not get my mic to respond in Vista. I have concluded I should prob get Logitech’s that is actually Vista compatible versus the cheaper Cyber Acoustics one. it works on my daughters computer (who is using XP).
Am I close?
