Green Tea for Me

I have officially quit coffee (not just once, but thrice over). Since doing so, I’ve struggled to find a suitable replacement for the strong flavor of a perfectly brewed cup of Peet’s. I’ve had no such luck, and have pretty much given up on any and all coffee substitutes. It’s time to turn my attention to tea - the coffee wannabe. Green tea is now my drink of choice - having sipped gallons of it in all my trips to sushi restaraunts. I wouldn’t choose green tea for it’s flavor, though; green tea is quite a healthy substance (as I’ve come to discover). According to the American Society of Clinical Nutrition, green tea helps folks lose weight. Their official conclusions: “Green tea has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content per se. The green tea extract may play a role in the control of body composition via sympathetic activation of thermogenesis, fat oxidation, or both.” And what the hell does that mean? It boils down (no pun intended) to helping with weight loss. If you want all the specifics, you’re more than welcome to wade through a metric ton of mumbo-jumbo. I’m sold.
I’ll continue to search the globe for the best tasting green tea flavor and stick with it for eternity. Just like I did with Peet’s. In fact, Peet’s (I hear) produces some great teas (including various green teas). Don’t tease me about teas, though; if you know of a really good green tea to try, please send some my way. Price is no object when it comes to great flavor, IMHO. In knowing that I’m battling the bulge with fellow Gnomies (subscribe to our Fatblasters discussion list to join the fat fight), I’m looking for every possible tip and trick I can find. I think green tea may very well be just what the doctor ordered (although I haven’t asked my doctor about it, he practices both Eastern and Western medicine). Some might suggest taking the green tea extract pill instead, but I’d prefer the liquid form - less synthetic, more organic. I’m also not going to load my green tea with sweetners or sugar. I’m trying to help my body, not hurt it. C’mon, I can’t be the only geek out there who faces these kinds of issues?!

Try the “special gunpowder green tea. In bulk or boxed by Temple of Heaven from China. In Chinatown ask any herbalist for the “Special tea” they will know what you want.

I to am a green tea fanatic (also trying to lose the unwanted lbs.) and find it much better than coffee. I sometimes take and make a gallon of green tea for myself to drink throughout the day. Once you drink it without sweeteners, you get used to it. Not only does your body begin to lose the weight but your health gets better.
I don’t know if you have noticed having less aches and pains since drinking the green tea, but I have. In fact I suffered with headaches, and since drinking the tea, I have less or none at all. I am also putting more fruits and veggies in my diet, instead of grabbing the sweet candy. I am slowly transforming my body. But no matter what I will never stop drinking green tea- I have some by lipton. But have been told the real stuff from the orient is the best. So good luck with your quest at better health, maybe you could incorporate some exercises to do while sitting at the computer too.
